Well, Tony, you kind of just proved his point inadvertently. Steve looks both hurt and resigned, like he expected more or less this reaction but he was hoping for something better. Something different between them than old patterns recurring. He gives a weak shrug and drinks more of the birch beer. "You're gonna tell me you've never built or designed anything you felt a little sensitive about? Maybe it's not the same for you, but I always thought you put a lot of yourself in your work."

"Anyway, I don't believe you when you say you wouldn't have noticed. Because obviously you have noticed."

Sometimes Tony is very self-aware. Other times, not so much. Steve thinks this is one of the other times. "You've been trying to figure me out since the beginning. I never have been sure what you're looking for, but you dig in places I'd rather you didn't."
