Hubris is and will always be the undoing of people like them. Tony has already suffered by his own hand in that regard and he has a feeling that he is destined to do so again if what Steve said was true about his inevitable attempt to help causing more problems then it’s worth. That stung, and it stings again, but that’s why he can recognize in Loki that the supposed former Asgardian Prince has just given himself up.

He’s here for an arrangement. He was caught because he wanted to be caught. Tony lightly taps on the glass and shrugs.

“Well, if that’s the case, and I’m going to be real honest here and hope it’s not, but maybe we can work together in the future. I think we can be useful to each other.” He’s just trying to exit the conversation and return to Steve. They need to prepare for an attack-- Or, more likely, some sort of ambush.
