This Steve trusts too easily, perhaps. He's good at sniffing out a lie in a new situation; if he's on high alert he's always intensely observant, always strategizing, and in looking for an opening, he'll see flaws and details most people miss. But at this point he doesn't know Tony well enough to keep an eye out for a hidden agenda. He knows he's not HYDRA and he's not an evil alien, and that makes him an ally. One of the good guys.
He's gonna take this one on faith. But it does sound like an absolutely terrible plan, and a bit cruel. "He's not going to thank you for that," he warns. "And neither is anyone else."
Actually, no, he hates this idea. "You're going to endanger the lives of everyone on this vessel. Yourself included."
But like the older version of himself, this Cap has a pragmatic streak. The ends don't quite justify the means, but they don't have time to create an elaborate plan, either. "Fine. But you damn well better make it worth it," he growls out, "And you better come up with some ideas on how to contain him, stat."
He backs off a step to let Tony go. They need to move now, and getting the scepter without interference is going to be tricky.
((I did, ty!))
